Parents Like Me! > Priority access
It is not a particularly well-known fact that child care providers who receive monies from the Commonwealth must provide their services on a priority access basis, and that the guidelines for access are set out under Australian Government's Priority of Access Guidelines.
IMPORTANT!
The existence of the Priority of Access Guidelines does not guarantee a place in any service because demand for services often exceeds supply. Furthermore, the Guidelines do not apply to employer-sponsored child care.
While grandparents and other carers are not specifically mentioned in the Guidelines, it is apparent that some Grandcarers would meet these assessment criteria. Thus, it is strongly recommended that grandparents who wish to access child care services as a matter of priority need to clearly indicate their status as a Grandcarer and any of the other criteria that are appropriate according to the Guidelines.
