Research with Grandcarers has consistently shown that as a group they are less healthy when
compared to their non-caregiving peers. This is probably because, in addition to the normal effects of ageing, a Grandarer's lifestyle is frequently isolated and financially and socially restricted and many become mentally and physically exhausted by their caring role. It is therefore very important that Grandcarers look after their own health and wellbeing. Taking time to care for your own health and wellbeing is not selfish because your health affects your ability to parent.
... I didn’t realise I nagged ... it was only after my husband said something at a group meeting that I realised how badly my health was affecting me ... he said “Yes, you do nag” ... in front of everyone… well, I went and did something about it ...
