Schools can contribute significantly to helping grandparents cope with the stresses of parenting a second time around.  However, school personnel may first need help to understand the different issues living in a Grandfamily poses for both grandparents and grandchildren. 

This section will present strategies to help grandparents educate school personnel about their grandchild’s needs, and problems, as well as present strategies for schools to use in their support of grandparents who are working to raise and educate their grandchildren.
